What Is This For?

The Deviant Administration Portal (DAP) is the in-development future home of all of the organizational needs of Drive Deviant.

There are many functionality goals for the DAP, some of which have been implemented, and some which have not.

Overall, the broader goal is to centralize as much club/content management as we can within our own web properties, and then disseminate out to social media & third party services from there. One place to do everything we need for the club, regardless of what strangeness is happening with social media in the world of 2025+.

It’s not a perfect setup, there will probably be things that just don’t mesh well with a WordPress website environment – but the more we can bring into our club-owned web properties, the better.

Do I Need to Sign Up?

All of these groups will ideally either benefit from, or have need of, this DAP site in the future:

  • Board of Directors
  • Discord/Facebook mods
  • Event hosts
  • Regional managers
  • Social media content folk
  • Artist team
  • Webdev team
  • Racing division
  • Partner Organizations
  • Etc

Some folk will have more need of it than others, and it may not offer much for everybody right away, but I know Grey wants to see it start getting some use.

As the club grows, it will get harder and harder to keep all of the disjointed pieces functioning as a whole entity, the time to organize the back-end is definitely now.

Goals:

Project Management [implemented]

We have a feature-rich project management system with assignable tasks, due-dates, categories, etc. This will help us keep track of all of the various irons we have in the fire, across all Deviant properties.

Team/Staff Management [pending]

While the project management system does offer us some team grouping functionality, this is going to be expanded to include things like:

  • Team Portals
    • For Artist/Web/Newsletter/Host/Moderators/Managers etc teams, containing role guides, resource links, etc
  • Staff Contact Information
    • Private listing of contact information for members of assorted Deviant teams
    • Org chart with Board of Directors
  • Whatever else we can think of.

Event Management [pending]

Ideally, a solution for managing all of our club events from the DAP. Because not everybody uses Facebook anymore, and we want to make sure people can see our events regardless of the social media platforms they choose to use.

  • Create/edit events
  • RSVP on our site
  • Participant rosters
  • Payments
  • Etc

The goal would be to manage the events locally on the administration site, and then display pretty public-facing content and links on the content sites and social media.

Social Media Management [pending]

The goal here is to find a WordPress plugin platform that will allow us to create social media posts across multiple networks, from one spot. There are several such plugins available, we just need to research them and decide on what works best.

It wouldn’t be able to replace individual social apps/sites, but it would sure make it easy to do big announcements across all social properties (or even just do a basic post without having to leave the DAP).

Much like with self-centralizing event management, this would unshackle us from any one social media platform as a primary form of communication. People can follow

Internal Communication [implemented]

As you can see, the blogging function works already (it’s literally what all of WordPress is built around lol).

We can probably work on customizing blog access and have a restricted section, or just require login for the whole DAP site, and use the blog feature for a number of things:

  • Internal club announcements
  • Updates from teams/projects
  • Pitching long-form ideas/suggestions
  • National/world news that may impact the club
  • So much more.

Also, there is functionality for communication on the blog posts directly, commenting can be enabled on individual content pages, and the project management system has communication built into it.

Resource Organization [in progress]

I’m currently working on a basic resource directory for listing/organizing club-wide resources. Each contribution team (artists, moderators, hosts, etc) will also have a resource directory.

Anything Else We Want!

This is far from an exhaustive or complete list, and nothing is set in stone (that’s for deciders, not builders – despite the “set in stone” phrasing).

More will likely be added, and some thing may get removed or changed. We’ll see how it goes!
